Biography

One of the senior players in the Brit Oval dressing room, Jonathan Batty has been behind the Surrey stumps ever since his arrival at the Club in 1997. With a first-class average of 33.55, many observers are still perplexed as to why he has never been tried as England’s next wicket-keeper/batsman. The highlight of Batty’s impressive career to date is surely a County Championship match against Kent at the Brit Oval in 2004. After scoring 129 in the first innings, Batty then equalled the world record for catches in one innings by snaring eight in the Kent reply. After he took two more in the second innings, Surrey won the game by seven wickets. 2009 will see the Club honour Jonathan for his loyal service by granting him a benefit year.
