Walters to captain youthful Brown Caps in Beckenham

27 June 2009

Stewart Walters will take his bow as Surrey captain for the final Twenty20 Cup game of the season, away at Beckenham against the Kent Spitfires tomorrow (Sunday June 28th).

The well liked middle order batsman will lead a twelve man squad including many of the players that have starred in Surrey’s excellent Second XI season, including young off-spinner Simon King who bowled the Brown Caps to victory on Friday against Northamptonshire with figures of 5/55.

There is also a place in the squad for 18-year-old Pemberton Greenish Academy batsman Tom Lancefield, who has impressed for both the Second XI and PG Academy all season.

The full Surrey Brown Caps squad to take on Kent Spitfires at Beckenham on Sunday June 28th is:

Stewart Walters (Captain)
Chris Jordan
Michael Brown
Chris Murtagh
Matthew Spriegel
Grant Elliott
Laurie Evans
Gary Wilson (Wicket Keeper)
Simon King
Tim Linley
Pedro Collins
Tom Lancefield

The game is due to start, at Beckenham CC, at 2.30pm. Tickets are still available and will be sold on the door. Live ball by ball commentary will also be available, courtesy of BBC London 94.9, on www.surreycricket.com and a full Surrey TV highlights package will be available shortly after the match.
