Surrey Sign Tremlett on Three Year Deal
27 January 2010
Surrey County Cricket Club have today signed former England fast bowler Chris Tremlett on a three year deal.
Tremlett, 28, who has arrived at Surrey from Hampshire, has taken 289 wickets at 28.66 in a first-class career that has so far encompassed three Test Matches, nine One Day Internationals and one International Twenty20.
His 6ft 7" frame and steepling action has seen him take regular wickets in four day cricket ever since making his County Championship debut in 2001 and makes him ideally suited to the rigours of traditionally hard and bouncy Brit Oval wickets.
Partnering with the likes of Jade Dernbach and Andre Nel, the arrival of Tremlett will give Surrey a fine battalion of attacking fast bowlers and promote a high level of competition for first team places. Combined with the recent arrival of young Indian leg spinner Piyush Chawla, it will also give Surrey Professional Cricket Manager, Chris Adams, a wealth of options to balance his bowling attack.
Speaking after Tremlett signed his contract at the Brit Oval this morning, Adams said: "In Chris Tremlett, Surrey have signed a bowler of Test Match ability who is just beginning to approach the prime of his career. "His height, action and pace make him very well suited to bowling at the Brit Oval and I am looking forward to him developing partnerships with our existing pace attack.
"He is joining a very different and highly motivated Surrey side and I feel we have got somebody that has the right attributes to continue his England career."
Managing Director of Surrey Cricket, Gus Mackay, added: "Chris Tremlett is another high quality addition to the Surrey squad and will definitely help our drive to bring success and trophies back to Surrey."
Chris Tremlett concluded: "Coming to Surrey will open an exciting chapter in my career and I am very much looking forward to getting the opportunity to work alongside my new team mates to help return this great Club back to the top of English cricket. "I would also like to place on the record my sincere thanks to Hampshire. I leave the Club with many fond memories of both the players and coaches who have helped me hugely over the past nine years."
