Surrey Donate Shirts to Local Charity
4 March 2010
The Brit Oval has long held strong links with nearby businesses in Kennington and these were further strengthened last week with the presentation of 400 shirts and 300 caps to a local charity devoted to helping poverty stricken people in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Medical Relief Foundation, run by local businessman Kowzar Hoque – owner of the nearby Kennington Tandoori Restaurant – has received strong support in Kennington for a number of years, the funds it raises going to build wells, medical centres and other facilities to help those in the country suffering with deprivation.
With a group of Kennington residents – led by Mr. Hoque – due to fly out to Bangladesh this week, Surrey ensured they were weighed down with luggage by donating the unused shirts to be handed out to the cricket mad population of Bangladesh, ensuring they are properly clad whilst playing their national game.
The Brit Oval’s Group Commercial Director Zac Toumazi was on hand to conduct the presentation last Friday – with the kit now well on its way to south-east Asia.
