Simon King Builds for the Future
1 February 2010
Young off spinner Simon King is working hard in Winter Training at the Brit Oval and recently took the time to sit down with Surrey TV to discuss his past, present and future.
King, a graduate of the Pemberton Greenish Surrey Academy, made his first team debut in the Twenty20 Cup match against Kent at Beckenham last year before impressing in his first-class debut a fortnight later at Lord’s against Middlesex.
After securing another selection for the Whitgift Festival LV County Championship match against Derbyshire, King was struck down with injury and spent the majority of the rest of the season like he began it – in the treatment room.
Fortunately, King was able to bounce back in time to play a key role in the Second XI Championship Final victory against Lancashire, taking the crucial final wicket to cap a season where he was the leading SEC wicket taker with 25 scalps at a measly 21.64.
To see King reveal how he was told he was making his first-class debut, why he feels the Twenty20 experience was invaluable to him whilst at Lord’s and how he sees 2010 panning out for him watch the video above.
