Scott Newman leaves the Brit Oval
26 October 2009
Surrey County Cricket Club’s opening batsman Scott Newman has left the Brit Oval after nine seasons with the Club.
Newman had been with Surrey for his entire professional career, making his debut for the Club in 2001 and playing in 90 first-class matches for his average of 42.69. He was also a destructive One Day player for the Brown Caps, playing 76 One Day and 39 Twenty20 matches respectively.
He was made available for loan in the middle of the 2009 season and spent the second half of the year playing at Nottinghamshire, where he averaged 22.63 in the LV County Championship.
During his time at the Brit Oval Newman’s top score was 219, scored against Glamorgan in 2005 in a match where he also scored 117 in the first innings. This feat made him the first person to score both a double and a single century in the same match for Surrey.
Speaking about Newman’s departure, Managing Director of Cricket Gus Mackay said: “I am pleased we were able to come to an arrangement with Scott and we wish him all the best. “I would also like to thank him for the runs he has contributed to numerous Surrey sides during his long stint at the Club.”
Newman will join Middlesex, where he has signed a three year deal.
