Pre-Season is Underway!

With now under a month to go until the first ball is bowled in Surrey’s first competitive game of the season, the Surrey squad have reported back to the Brit Oval for the start of official pre-season training.

As those who have followed this website over the winter will know, Rory Hamilton-Brown’s side have not exactly been slacking between October and March with a series of punishing Hell Friday exercises set by Ian Salisbury and regular net practices being held throughout.

Others have been hard at work elsewhere with Matthew Spriegel and Stewart Walters wintering in Western Australia, helping Perth CC to one of their most successful seasons in recent memory and both batsmen scoring heavily on the solid Australian tracks.

Wicket keeper Gary Wilson has once again travelled the world with the Irish national side, qualifying for the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies and playing regularly at the top level of Associate Cricket.

Mark Ramprakash is now grateful to have a cricket bat back in his hand after his punishing regime on the Strictly Come Dancing Tour, which he starred in throughout the early part of this year. He returned today and was straight down to the indoor nets at the Ken Barrington Cricket Centre.

Amongst Surrey’s new signings at the ground today were off spinner Gareth Batty, pace bowler Chris Tremlett and – of course – captain Rory Hamilton-Brown. More fresh arrivals still abroad with other sides were Steven Davies (England), Andre Nel (Highveld Lions) and Piyush Chawla (King’s XI Punjab).
