PG Academy win and lose on the road
28 May 2009
The Pemberton Greenish Surrey Academy have finished their half-term tour with a victory over Essex and a defeat to an U25 side from Huntingdonshire.
They started the trip on Tuesday, playing at St. Ives CC against a strong Huntingdonshire side – most of whom were far older than their visitors – who batted first and put on 291/7. Surrey had started their attack well but failed to take key middle order wickets, allowing the hosts to put on 120 off the final fifteen overs.
The PG Academy reply was centred around a good innings of 72 from Seren Waters, but a middle order collapse saw Surrey fall from 83/1 to 90/4 and eventually 195 all out.
Thursday saw the PG Academy at Billericay CC to play their counterparts from Essex and run out as nine wicket victors.
The PG Academy again bowled first, dismissing Essex for 143 in the 37th over of a game that was reduced to 40 overs a side by rain, with good bowling from Tom Jewell, Bilal Chohan and Muhunthan Harinath.
Gareth Townsend’s side then romped to victory, scoring the runs off just 26 overs and losing only Shaun Cousens, who was dismissed for 51. Seren Waters (50 not out) and Rory Burns (32 not out) saw the team home in windy conditions.
