Mackay: We are looking for quality

29 September 2009

Gus Mackay, the Managing Director of Surrey Cricket, recently sat down with Surrey TV to discuss what has been a very eventful season at the Brit Oval.

Mackay, who is in overall charge of all elements of the cricket operation at Surrey, spent twenty minutes talking to Mark Church in the BBC London 94.9 Commentary Box during the LV County Championship match against Glamorgan last week.

As part of those discussions, Mackay talked about Surrey’s recruitment plans and hinted that they were searching for a top class international spinner as well as being on the hunt for a further two to three players who would fit into the squad, not only as players but as people.

He said, “It’s not a case of rushing straight to the check out when you’re looking to bring in new players. We’re looking for quality and that might mean the process will take slightly longer.”

Mackay also acknowledged that results this year have not been good enough but he urged fans to stay patient.

“Positive change will take time but I hope that people can see the green shoots of recovery starting to happen. I’m incredibly passionate about this role- I’m in it for the journey.”
