Chris Adams has called on the current crop of young stars to make the next generation of Surrey Cricket “a great part of its history.”
Speaking in the final part of his landmark interview with Mark Church – now available to watch at Surrey TV – Adams talks in depth about his philosophy on coaching and exactly how he is instilling the skills he thinks are necessary for the Club turn its poor run of form around.
Whilst continuing to emphasise the three to five year plan that he is working to, Grizz is also realistic about the need for quick results to ensure he is able to stay at the Club long enough to watch the culmination of his plans in the middle of the next decade.
“We talked about a three to five year plan”, he began. “Realistically this will be pushing the five years but I also know that if results continue over the next three years like they are then I’m not going to be around to see that five year plan through. We need some instant results back, hence we’re here in November working at these skill levels and bringing them up to the required level as quickly as we can.
“I’m not going to look back in three or four or five years time and think ‘I wish I’d done that’. I’m prepared to make the tough decisions. I am learning – I know that – so I have to make sure my own learning continues on an upward graph. I’m starting to feel now that this feels more like my team that I’m starting to put together.”
