Honeywell School Retain the Maurice Fulcher Trophy

4 March 2010

The 2010 Maurice Fulcher Trophy recently came to a conclusion in the Brit Oval’s Ken Barrington’s Centre with last year’s winners Honeywell School once again picking up the coveted trophy.

The competition, which is organised by Surrey to introduce children in south London primary schools to cricket and a competitive sports environment, took place in February, with 38 schools entering and six making it through to the finals day, which took place on Thursday February 25th.

On top of the victorious Honeywell (pictured), based in Clapham, other schools to qualify for the finals day were St. Anselm’s in Tooting Bec; St. Mary’s in Clapham; Wyvil Primary School in Vauxhall; Woodmansterne in Streatham and Furzedown in Tooting, who ended as defeated finalists.

At the end of the day, Honeywell and Furzedown contested an extremely tight final won by the Clapham school off the final over of the day. Following this Surrey skipper Rory Hamilton-Brown was on hand to present Honeywell with their prize and both finalists were given a set of gold Surrey One Day shirts.

The event was generously sponsored by the Girdlers’ Livery Company and Master of the Girdlers Michael Keene and Clerk Ian Rees were both in attendance on the day.

Other attendees at the Maurice Fulcher Trophy final were Surrey TV. To see the video and witness some of the action from the day, please click on Play Video in the top left hand corner of the picture at the top of this article.
