Extraordinary Figures for U11 Star
Extraordinary Figures for U11 Star
24 July 2009
A potential Surrey star of the future was uncovered at Charterhouse School on Wednesday as U11 spin bowler Tom Homes took the extraordinary figures of 6.4-5-1-7.
Homes, playing against the Berkshire U11 side, bowled superbly as he took seven wickets for just one run off 6.4 overs. Berkshire were eventually dismissed for just 34 off 19.4 overs with none of their batsmen reaching double figures.
The Surrey Under 11 side is coached by Ricky Anderson and Brian Berthoud.
Ricky highlighted Tom's ability to bowl consistently as a key weapon saying: “Tom has bowled with incredible control every time this summer. He is always challenging the batsman to play the ball, never allowing them an easy run and on this occasion the challenge was just too much.
"We know he can bowl economically and this is a fantastic day when the wickets have come his way as well. Best figures I've ever seen!”
Brian added: “His action is technically sound which allows him to keep that control. The other factor is that he can also spin the ball which is so important for any young spinner.
“Control will get you some results and if you have the ability to spin the ball and obtain bounce, then that will get you far bigger results. I never expected the results to be 7 wickets for 1 run though!!”
