Surrey teenager George Edwards has been handed a call up to the England U18 side who are due to play Bangladesh U19s at Loughborough next week.
Edwards, 16, who plays for Spencer Cricket Club in Wandsworth, has been called up for the side as a replacement for fellow Surrey youngster Matthew Dunn, who is unable to play due to school tour commitments in the West Indies.
A popular figure in Surrey sides, Edwards has impressed for both the Pemberton Greenish Academy and the Second XI this year, taking eight wickets and bowling tight lines with impressive pace and aggression as well as improving his ability with the bat.
The England U18s will play the Bangladesh U19s as the touring team’s only warm up ahead of the Test, One Day and Twenty20 series against their English counterparts which starts at Scarborough CC on Monday July 6th.
Next week’s game takes place at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough on Friday July 3rd and Saturday July 4th.
Speaking about Edwards’ pick, Pemberton Greenish Academy Director Gareth Townsend said: “George has been very impressive so far this season and selection for this team is good recognition of the progress he has been making.
“Myself and Ian Salisbury have been very happy with his performances at second team level and he always a popular character to have around. Hopefully his debut international selection will be the start of a long and successful career at all levels of the game.”
