Surrey have been drawn in the same group as the newly formed ECB Recreational XI in next year’s ECB 40 League, the final of which will be at Lord’s on Saturday September 18th.
As well as the Recreational XI – which will be drawn from players without full county contracts – the tournament will feature International sides from Scotland and the Netherlands, who will play in groups B and C respectively.
Joining the new team in Surrey’s Group A will be Glamorgan, Lancashire, Somerset, Sussex and Worcestershire, allowing more than a few members of the Brown Caps to face off against former colleagues.
Three groups of seven teams are taking part with teams playing each other home and away. Group winners and the best second placed team will qualify for the semi-finals with the Final taking place at Lord’s on Saturday 18 September.
Further details regarding the selection procedure and home ground for the ECB Recreational XI are currently being confirmed by the ECB and will be announced shortly. The official team name has still also to be decided, with cricket fans being asked to put forward suggestions at www.ecb.co.uk/40league.
