Batty Returns as Wilson joins Ireland

30 May 2009

Young wicket keeper Gary Wilson has been released from the Surrey Brown Caps’ Twenty20 Cup squad to join up with the Ireland international side ahead of the ICC World Twenty20.

Wilson’s temporary release means an opportunity for popular ‘keeper Jonathan Batty to return to the first team setup. Batty has been absent for the last ten games, playing for the Club’s successful Second XI during the time Wilson has been behind the stumps for the Friends Provident Trophy and Twenty20 Cup campaigns.

Batty will play his first game back against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl on Sunday and will be available for selection for the Liverpool Victoria County Championship trips to Glamorgan, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire that will form Surrey’s schedule for the forthcoming three weeks.

During this time, Wilson will be campaigning in the ICC World Twenty20, a tournament Ireland hope to make an impact on to underline their current status as the leading ‘Associate’ nation in International cricket. He will be joined in the side by fellow county cricket stars including William Porterfield of Gloucestershire and Niall O’Brien of Northamptonshire.
