Batty on Bangladesh

11 March 2010

New Surrey off spinner Gareth Batty made his Test Match debut in Bangladesh and has spoken to Surrey TV about the unique challenges the country will offer to Alistair Cook's England side when they play the first Test Match tomorrow.

Batty made his Test Match debut six and a half years ago in Dhakar taking 1/43 and 1/65 as England - including three then Surrey players in Mark Butcher, Graham Thorpe and Rikki Clarke -  swept to a seven wicket victory behind big scores from Marcus Trescothick and Michael Vaughan.

Although Batty was not selected for the second Test in Chittagong, he came back into the side later that winter against Sri Lanka and played two further Tests against Bangladesh back in England in the build up to the 2005 Ashes summer where - due to the brilliance of England's seam attack - he bowled a total of fifteen overs before being ousted from the side by Ashley Giles when the Australians arrived.
