Chris Adams has named a fourteen man squad as his Surrey Brown Caps side get ready for the first phase of games in this season’s Twenty20 Cup.
Captained by Usman Afzaal, who continues his One Day stewardship in the absence of the injured Mark Butcher, the squad contains the returning Chris Jordan, Jade Dernbach and James Benning, all of whom have recently been absent from the first team picture with a variety of injuries.
The squad is a good balance of youth and experience with experienced campaigners such as Afzaal, Mark Ramprakash, Andre Nel and Chris Schofield named alongside young stars such as Matthew Spriegel, Gary Wilson, Stuart Meaker and Jordan.
There is also a place for Scott Newman, who is entering the tournament on the back of a career best performance of 177 against Yorkshire Carnegie at the Brit Oval on Wednesday and New Zealand all-rounder Grant Elliott, who will be hoping to replicate his International average of 36.57 with the bat and 25.28 with the ball.
The full fourteen man Surrey Brown Caps squad to take on: Middlesex Panthers at Lord’s on Monday 25th May; Sussex Sharks and Hampshire Hawks at the Brit Oval on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th May; Essex Eagles at the Ford County Ground in Chelmsford on Friday 27th May and Hampshire Hawks at the Rose Bowl on Sunday 31st May in the Twenty20 Cup is:
Speaking to the official Surrey website, www.surreycricket.com, the Club’s Professional Cricket Manager Chris Adams said: “At times this season we have shown we are capable of beating anybody in One Day cricket and in all competitions it is our search for consistency that remains a priority.
“When I arrived at Surrey I promised I would give a chance to the talented youngsters on our books and this is exactly what I have done. The likes of Gary Wilson, Matthew Spriegel and Stuart Meaker have done well this year and therefore have remained in the side.
“It will be a hard, intense week of cricket but all the boys are all up for the challenge and are confident that they can beat anybody in our group and move forward in the competition.”
