Cricket Projects in London

To complement the cricketing activity in Surrey, we also organise a number of cricket projects in Inner London, and especially Lambeth.

Lambeth is one of fourteen local authorities that constitute Inner London, and is one of the most densely populated boroughs in the city, with a population of around 269,100. 38% of Lambeth's population are from ethnic minorities, and aproximately 150 languages are spoken within the borough.

Given the ethnically diverse communities and the social problems that are apparent in the borough, sport and physical activity is the perfect medium by which to try and promote social cohesion and community engagement from a young age.

At Surrey County Cricket Club, we try to use our status as a world class sports venue, and leading cricket club to provide opportunities to the community via cricket and other projects. Community Cricket in Lambeth is a major priority, and your contribution is vital to its success.

Existing cricket facilities in Lambeth:

Currently, cricket facilities in Lambeth are limited for a borough with such a big population. There is a community cricket ground on Kennington Park, nets at the Brixton Recreational Centre and some provision in one or two schools. Npower have recently opened a multi use games area in Loughborough Junction (near Brixton), and this is focussed on cricket. There are also some other multi use games areas within Lambeth, owned and operated by Lambeth Council, but these are not cricket specific.

It is therefore imperative that existing facilities are used to their maximum potential, and that new ones are cultivated.

The two major cricket progammes that we run in Lambeth and inner London are the Lord's Taverners Road Show, and the Pinnacle Community Clubs Project.
